About Sunset Elementary
SEED: Sunset Elementary School's Foundation

SEED was created as an innovative non-profit foundation in 2005, to fundraise for technology and curricular initiatives at Sunset Elementary.

SEED is your school foundation –one of very few that exist in Miami-Dade County. A group of dedicated parents formed SEED in 2005 to raise money for long-term initiatives at Sunset Elementary that are not funded by Miami-Dade County or by existing parent organizations at our school. SEED is a 501(c)(3) organization, and all donations are tax-deductible. Funds are raised through grants from corporate and private foundations, as well as through individual contributions to the Brick Fundraiser in 2008 and to the Giving Tree in previous years.
Brick Fundraiser ends April 30!
SEED sponsors this Brick Fundraiser.  You can purchase your engraved brick to support Sunset’s Global Curriculum!

Bricks will grace International Plaza, at the entrance to the new building, now under construction. Donations will be accepted throughout the year, but space is limited. Do not miss this unique opportunity! Mail your Order Form and check made out to SEED. Contributions are TAX DEDUCTIBLE (to the extent allowed by law) Read more about the Bricks Fundraiser including the Bricks Q&A.

Sunset Elementary was awarded the 2007 Goldman Sachs Prize for Excellence in International Education.

Only one Elementary/Middle School in the United States is awarded this prize each year! The Goldman Sachs Foundation Prize for Excellence in International Education is a national competition first launched in 2003, which recognizes outstanding achievement by those in the education sector who promote cultural awareness, world history, and an international studies curriculum as essentials in the development of the next generation of young Americans.  The prize included $25,000 in a check for the school.  SEED's grants and prizes have now passed the $60,000 mark!  Read more on the Goldman Sachs Award.

Sunset Advocacy Committe (SAC)

SEED created the Sunset Advocacy Committee in September 2008, together with Sunset's PTA, SIPA, FIPA and GIPA.  SAC advocates for Sunset programs to maintain their quality level and budget.  SAC has met with district authorities and state representatives to advocate for our programs.  Marina Hernández, SEED VP, is currently participating in the School Allocation Plan Parent Advisory Subcommittee, which presents budgetary recommendations to district authorities.  Sunset parents have signed over 500 petitions that have been presented to Superintendent Carvalho.  Click here to read the letter addressed to Mr. Carvalho.
