Since 2007, SEED has successfully raised $100,000 in funds for Sunset Elementary School through grants, donations and advocacy. Here are some of the highlights:
Purchased and installation of Smart Boards for every classroom in the school
Additional communications technology to enhance Smart Board technology
Procured 30 new classroom computers
Donated more than $ 45,000 in Teacher Mini-Grants since SEED’s inception, including funding for a weather station for 4th and 5th grades, Robotics and Coding, Brain Pop for schoolwide use, Languagenut and Antolin subscription to name a few.
Partnered with PTA to share the cost of a new state-of-the-art sound system for the cafeteria
Purchased an ipad cart with 30 ipads for multiple grade levels to use.
SEED helped Sunset Elementary earn the 2007 Goldman Sachs National Prize for Excellence in International Education. This award, which included a $25,000 gift, is granted to only one school in the United States each year, selected among all public and private elementary and middle schools in the country.
Through local government advocacy, SEED members successfully protected Sunset Elementary School from a substantial budgetary loss in the 2009-2010 school year. In 2008, SEED was also instrumental in ensuring that $12 million were secured for new building and renovations.
